Travel Agent Appreciation Month:

With exciting new ships (and their many innovative amenities) joining our Royal Caribbean family, like Oasis of the SeasSM at the end of this year and Allure of the SeasSM in 2010, it’s often easy to overlook some of the amazing enhancements we have brought onboard to our current fleet – and they’re quite newsworthy in themselves.

My Time DiningSM, rolling out fleetwide, allows guests the flexibility to eat in the main dining room when they please, and with whom they please. Additionally, we’ve also unveiled My Family Time DiningSM for those traveling with children. This program allows families to have a quality dinner together within a 40-minute kid-approved timeframe.

Even the youngest of travelers will enjoy their Royal Caribbean International® cruise. With new programs for Royal Babies (ages 6-18 months) and Royal Tots (ages 18-36 months) your little cruiser will enjoy every moment - and so will you! We offer everything from babysitter service to parent/child activities, as well as our award-winning Adventure Ocean® youth program. We’ve also started a brand-spanking new Babies on the Go program where parents can order diapers, wipes, creams and other baby essentials online to be delivered to their stateroom upon arrival. Finally, packing for parents just got lighter – wish we had these programs when my kids were little.

No one likes when their vacation comes to an end, but with our new Revamped Departure Process, it may not be so bad after all! In fact, travelers may just enjoy it! Plus, consecutive cruisers (guests continuing on the following voyage aboard the same ship) won’t be bored onboard as they wait for their next adventure to begin. From specialized activities to personalized service and attention, these cruisers will have it made in the shade… or the sun… or in the comfort indoors.

All these upgrades and more can be found on our specially designed Onboard Enhancements Microsite, so be sure to familiarize yourself with all our exciting changes. It is because of our spectacular onboard experience that guests come back to us time and time again. This is why we continually invest in enhancing our offerings and why Royal Caribbean is known for delivering the highest guest satisfaction. Now is the time to book new cruisers – tell them about all the things we offer to give them the vacation they deserve. Your clients will thank you.

Colleen Gaier - Excellence In Travel

One of the most profitable ways to sell cruise vacations is to plan group or themed cruises. Agents that have never attempted to arrange a multi-person cruise may find the task a bit daunting, especially promoting the event and attracting interest, but not for Colleen Gaier.

Colleen is a master of group cruises, in fact she has done what many smaller travel agencies think is impossible – she has developed a formula that not only works, it markets itself – BIG time. She partners with the media.

In fact, the idea for her current themed cruise was inspired by a souvenir she found in her honeymoon memory box from the first cruise she had ever taken with her husband in 1984. Since her 25th wedding anniversary was this month, she was reminiscing about her marriage and going through her keepsakes. That is when she came across an old business card from the Vocal Manager of the band that played onboard during her honeymoon cruise. The band was The Duprees.

This sparked an idea. Why not call this two-decade-old phone number to see if this man still worked in the music industry. He answered, and he did. An Oldies themed cruise was born.

Now Colleen has partnered with her local NBC affiliate in Dayton, Ohio for a cruise featuring Soprano’s star Tony Darrow as Master of Ceremonies, Larry Chance of The Earls performing, as well as Joe Terry of Danny and the Juniors.

Since Colleen put together a successful radio station cruise last year on Royal Caribbean, she already knew what to do. She revamped a proposal that included lots of advertising and broadcast exposure, contacted her BDM to reserve group space and started promoting right away.

Her September 26th Oldies cruise on Explorer of the Seas® is being featured in local mainstream media and staterooms are already being filled. Not only do big-idea concepts like this group cruise make sales easier, it also brings familiarity to your agency for future name recognition. It is a win-win concept and Colleen Gaier certainly has developed a formula for success.

Efforts and ideas like these inspire other travel agencies to think outside of the box, and continuously prove how innovative and creative our Travel Partners are. Keep up the great work Colleen!
