When it comes to affinity groups, Ruth Bridges of Aviva Travel Group in Chicago really has the right idea. A keen reader and literary lover, Ruth is a member of a local book club. Taking this passion and combining it with her love for travel she developed a group cruise concept that has proven successful.

Her Avid Readers Group Cruises provide guests with an unbelievable and relaxing vacation complete with a cocktail party event so guests can mingle with one another and discuss their favorite reads. She also arranges for a featured Author to join them on their cruise, reading excerpts from their works and interacting with attendees.

"Avid readers, floating on the water, sipping a cool drink and reading a really good book, meeting other readers and Authors for dinner each night… heaven" described Ruth dreamily. "This year there were 45 in our group sailing from Venice and I already have 37 registered for next year's 2010 Avid Readers Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona."

And that's just the beginning for Ruth. Not only is she working to attract even more travelers to her group, she was excited to report that many of these book clubbers have become repeat clients, reserving their own personal cruise vacations through her as well.

She says that the tools which helped her most were CruisingPower.com and her Royal Caribbean Group Specialist. For more information on our group cruises, visit our Groups Your Way microsite and, like Ruth, turn your own hobby into a successful affinity group cruise. If you do, let me know about it, so you can be featured here too. Send your stories to: AskVicki@rccl.com
